Malíř, kreslíř a grafik Wallerant Vaillant (1623–1677) patří k ceněným reprezentantům zlatého věku holandského a vlámského malířství 17. století. Proslul především jako první profesionální grafik pracující v mezzotintě – specifické grafické technice vynalezené ve 40. letech 17. století. Jeho grafiky reprodukují obrazy velkých mistrů italského renesančního a barokního malířství i tehdejších holandských a vlámských malířů; často také pracoval podle vlastní invence. Painter, draughtsman and graphic artist Wallerant Vaillant (1623–1677) is one of renowned representatives of the Golden Age of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish painting. He made a name for himself especially as the first professional graphic artist working in mezzotint, a special graphic technique invented in the 1640s. Vaillant settled inAmsterdam around 1665 and produced over 200 high-quality mezzotint sheets there. His prints reproduce paintings by Italian Renaissance and Baroque masters as well as his Dutch and Flemish contemporaries. Vaillant also did the mezzotints after his own invention. The catalogue describes the beginnings of the mezzotint technique, which Vaillaint considerably helped improve and disseminate. It presents the sheets from his thematically ample graphic oeuvre testifying to his mastery in this new graphic technique. In Czech and English, 32 pages, 25 reproductions
