Description

This exhibition guide presents artworks of the 19th-century and Classic Modernism from the National Gallery Prague’s collections, arranged for the first time thematically rather than chronologically. The publication’s three content-specific parts – Man, World, and Ideas – introduce artworks representing all the artistic trends of the period 1796–1918. The publication juxtaposes self-portraits by Lovis Corinth, Henri Rousseau, and Bohumil Kubišta; scenes from cafés and bars by Karel Špillar, František Kupka, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec; still lifes by Josef Navrátil, André Derain, and Pablo Picasso; landscapes by Antonín Chittusi, Josef Mánes, Claude Monet and Edvard Munch; and Symbolist paintings by Jan Preisler, Jan Zrzavý, Egon Schiele, and Gustav Klimt. The publication includes an extensive illustrated timeline of the specified period.
